Ketamine Assisted Therapy FAQ
Here are answers to common questions about Ketamine-Assisted Therapy. Feel free to reach out if yours isn't covered.
-
How do I get the Ketamine?
After we complete your intake together, I'll refer you to a medical prescriber, typically a naturopathic doctor, for medical screening. These screening costs are sometimes covered by insurance.
Once you've completed the medical evaluation and both the prescriber and I have approved you for treatment, your prescription will be sent to a compounding pharmacy and delivered to your home.
You'll be responsible for bringing your ketamine medication to and from each session.

What does a typical arc of treatment look like?
A typical arc contains:
(1) 90-minute introduction/preparatory session
(2-4) Additional preparatory sessions
(4-6) Ketamine sessions
(4-6) Integration sessions, 24-72 hours after a ketamine session
(1) 90-minute, final closing session
The range options are impacted by: A client’s familiarity and readiness to engage in this style of experiential work, financial accessibility, and the status of their professional and personal support net. If you have more questions here, please contact me.

What are we doing during the ketamine session?
This is highly individual. Typically, a client spends a portion of their session keeping an inward directed focus. Once the ketamine starts to wear off, we typically engage in gentle conversation, exploring one’s inner world with the help of the altered state. Generally, individuals are having an experience, so, there isn’t much to do. My job is to create a sense of comfort and safety, while tracking verbal and non-verbal cues from my client.
-
How long are the ketamine sessions?
KAP sessions are three hours long.
-
How do I take the Ketamine?
My prescribers will give clients sublingual tablets (troches). You hold them in your mouth for ~15 minutes.
-
How long does Ketamine last for?
Ketamine's effects typically last 75-90 minutes. We schedule three-hour sessions to allow adequate time for you to settle into the experience and fully integrate and ground yourself afterward.
-
Is it covered by Insurance?
Unfortunately, no. However, as a licensed provider, I can provide superbills. Otherwise, I am cash pay.
I will keep my website up to date if this changes.
-
Is Ketamine dangerous?
Ketamine therapy, when administered in a clinical setting, is generally considered safe but does carry some risks.
Potential side effects include elevated blood pressure, nausea, and confusion, especially when ketamine is administered at higher doses.
In rare cases, users may experience more serious psychological effects such as dissociation or anxiety. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) notes that these risks are largely mitigated in supervised, therapeutic environments but can be problematic when ketamine is used recreationally or outside of medical oversight.

How do you use art in your sessions?
I integrate art in sessions based on your unique needs and goals. We might create artwork to explore your beliefs and feelings about substances or healing.
Art can also serve as a visual journal to track your therapeutic progress over time, or provide a safe outlet for emotions that are hard to put into words.
The approach is highly individualized. Some clients create during our session together, while others prefer art prompts to explore between sessions.
No artistic experience is necessary; the healing happens through the creative process itself
-
What if I want to do ketamine treatment, but I have no interest in using art?
Art is just one tool in my approach. As a trained psychedelic therapist*, I draw from mindfulness practices, visualization techniques, somatic awareness, and nervous system-focused interventions.
While I love incorporating creativity, I'm completely comfortable tailoring our sessions to what feels right for you, with or without art.

-
How much Ketamine do I take?
Your prescriber will offer you a dose range, which is decided on an individual basis.
I will not be able to tell you how much ketamine to take, but I can support you in offering harm reduction and education on the dose ranges provided.
Generally, sub-anesthetic doses are supportive for therapy.
-
Can I just do MDMA or Psilocybin with you?
Unfortunately, no. I only work above ground at this time. I am happy to support you with preparation and integration for your personal psychedelic experiences, but I cannot provide them personally.
-
Do I have to already be in therapy while I do ketamine therapy?
Yes, I strongly recommend maintaining regular therapy while doing ketamine work. Ketamine therapy can surface old emotions and create significant shifts that are best supported with consistent therapeutic care. This ongoing therapy can be with me or with another therapist you're already working with.
To ensure coordinated care, I'll have you sign a release of information form so your primary therapist and I can communicate about your treatment. These conversations can include you or happen between providers, depending on your preference and your therapist's approach.
